Settled in 1732, when the Dutch purchased property to establish a church. There were many springs, and a brook, on the property, and it was said that the wolves gathered there to drink, so the settlement was first known as Wolver Hollow. Perhaps because of the many brooks in the area, it later became known as Brookville.
