Brooklyn is the most populated NYC borough and is located on Long Island in Kings County. Historically, it was an independent city until 1898 when it was consolidated with New York City and has its own culture and heritage which is entirely different from the other boroughs. In 1634, the area was established as a Dutch settlement and was called "Midwout" which means "Midwood." The vilage of Breuckelen, which was named in honor of a town in the Netherlands.
