Located on the western part of Rensselaer County, along the eastern banks of the Hudson River, Troy is the county seat and home to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Russell Sage College, Hudson Valley Community College and the Emma Willard School. The city has had several notable residents, including Samuel Wilson, believed to have been the inspiration for Uncle Sam.
