The town of Apex, in Wake County, North Carolina, was incorporated in 1873, and named for its position as the highest point on a portion of the Chatham Railroad. In places along the town’s main street, water that falls on one side of the street flows into the Neuse river, while the other side drains into the Cape Fear River. Neighboring towns include Raleigh to the east, Cary to the north and northeast, and Holly Springs to the south.
