The town was incorporated in 1999 as a fully gated, residential community on the western bank of the Yadkin River, near country clubs and golf courses but, in 2000, the town annexed area in nearby Hillsdale, picking up a commercial district. Bermuda Run is bordered on the north by Yadkin County, Forsyth County to the northeast, Davidson County to the east, Iredell County to the west, and Rowan County to the south.
