Boone, North Carolina is the seat of Watauga County, and a university town, being home to Appalachian State University. Named for the pioneer and explorer, Daniel Boone, the town was incorporated in 1872. Located on the Blue Ridge Parkway, Boone has the highest elevation of any town of its size east of the Mississippi River. Boone is north of Blowing Rock.
