Carthage, North Carolina is the seat of Moore County. Although established in 1776 to be the county seat of the newly created Moore County, the town’s history is also connected to the Tyson Buggy Company, which was a predominant cart and buggy manufacturer headquartered in Carthage in the 1800s. In 1806, the town's name was changed to Faginsville, but it was changed back to Carthage twelve years later. Carthage is southwest of Sanford, and north of Aberdeen and Southern Pines.
