Located near the center of Cabarrus County, about twenty miles northeast of Charlotte, Concord serves as the county seat. Its history dates back to the 1700s, being formed as a solution to a disagreement between German and Scots-Irish settlers over where the county seat should be located, founded on a 26-acre site, and named Concord, meaning "harmony".
