Connelly Springs is in Burke County, North Carolina. The community was named for Colonel William Lewis Connelly, who operated a way station there in 1838. In 1885, Mrs. Elmira Connelly discovered that she had a mineral spring on her property, which led to the construction of the Connelly Mineral Springs Hotel, located along the railroad tracks and near the spring. As a settlement grew up around the hotel, the community became known as Connelly Springs, and was incorporated as such in 1920.
