Now considered to be a suburb of Charlotte and Gastonia, the Gaston County town of Cramerton, North Carolina was known as Maysworth, when it was founded in 1906, as a result of a spinning mill built along the banks of the South Fork of the Catawba River by J.H. Mills. In 1910, Stuart Warren Cramer became owner and president of the mill, turning the surrounding area into a model mill village, and changing the name of the town to Cramerton. The town was incorporated in 1967.
