Erwin is a town in Harnett County, North Carolina. The town was originally known as Duke, for the family that constructed the Erwin Cotton Mill. In 1926, when Trinity College in Durham became Duke University, the town changed its name from Duke to Erwin. The town of Erwin is northwest of Dunn and southeast of Lillington.
