Grimesland is a town in Pitt County, and part of the Inner Banks region of North Carolina. In 1714, Louis Duvall received a grant of land along the banks of the Tar River, and the resulting settlement became known as Mount Calvert. Over the years, the community has been known as Salter’s Ferry, Boyd’s Ferry, Nelsonville, and Elksville. In the 1760s, Dempsie Grimes began a plantation there, which was expanded by his son, William, becoming the current town of Grimesland.
