Grover is a small town in Cleveland County, North Carolina. Situated on the border of North and South Carolina, Grover was previously known as Whitaker, and was located within the boundaries of South Carolina at one time. Grover was named for President Grover Cleveland, although Cleveland County was named for Colonel Benjamin Cleveland, a Revolutionary War figure.

The inn and mansion were built in 1879 by Dr. Alfred Frederick Hambright, an assistant surgeon/hospital steward during the Civil War, now hosting guest accommodations on the first and second floor, as well as rustic camping sites, a culinary institute and museum, and gift shop.
