Halifax, North Carolina is the seat of Halifax County. The town was the location for the adoption of the Halifax Resolves, which were the first official action by a colony calling for independence. Located on the Roanoke River, Halifax became a commercial and political center during the American Revolution. Halifax is south of Weldon and directly north of the smaller community of Pender.
