Holden Beach, North Carolina is in Brunswick County. Prior to the American Revolution, early settlers seeking land near Lockwood’s Folly River applied for patents and received warrants for selected tracts. In 1756, Benjamin Holden bought four mainland tracts and the island between his plantation and the ocean. Generations of Holdens built businesses on the island, and a settlement grew up there, which was incorporated in 1969.
