Kannapolis, North Carolina is situated in the counties of Cabarrus, Rowan, and Mecklenburg. The accepted history of the name is that it is a combination of the Greek word "kanna" which means reeds, and "polis" which means city. There are also other stories which assert that it was a reference to Cannon Mills, a local company.
