The town of Valdese is in Burke County, in the foothills of Western North Carolina. Settlers first arrived in the area in the spring of 1893, originally comprised of eleven families, with several others arriving that same year, and Valdese was incorporated as town in 1917. Valdese is sixteen miles west of Hickory.
