Located in eastern Wake County, in northeast central North Carolina, at the area where the North American Piedmont and Atlantic Coastal Plain regions meet, on an elevated piece of land between the Little River and Moccasin Creek, Zebulon was founded when the railroad came through in 1906, and officially recognized in 1907. Zebulon was named for Zebulon Baird Vance, who was governor of North Carolina during the Civil War. The neighboring community of Wakefield was annexed to Zebulon in 1997.
