Tower City, North Dakota is in both Barnes and Cass counties. The community was founded in 1879 by Charlemagne Tower, an eastern railroad shareholder and landowner, who developed the area as a settlement along the railway. Its early business district was developed mainly north of the railroad tracks but when fire destroyed the wood-frame buildings, the business center was moved south of the tracks.
