Williston, North Dakota is the ninth largest city in the state, and the seat of Williams County. The city was founded in 1887, and named for Daniel Willis James, a board member of the Northern Pacific Railroad Company. Williston is located on the north banks of the Missouri River, northeast of Trenton and southwest of Epping.
