The Village of Botkins was named for Richard Botkins, who plotted the town and arranged for a railroad depot to be built there in 1858. The settlement was named Botkinsville, which was shortened to Botkins when it was incorporated in 1881. Botkins is in Dinsmore Township, in the northern part of Shelby County, Ohio.
