Although the land was first inhabited by the Hopewell, Adenas, Delaware, Shawnee and Wyandot tribes, today’s Dublin, Ohio was originally part of two thousand acres given to Lieutenant James Holt by the U.S. government as payment of his service in the Revolutionary War. John Sells purchased four hundred acres along the Scioto River, which was platted as a village in 1810, now known as Historic Dublin, although the larger city has expanded into Franklin, Delaware and Union counties.
