Minerva, Ohio is a village whose boundaries reach into Carroll, Columbiana, and Stark counties. The community was founded by John Whitacre, who built a log mill there in 1818, naming the town for his niece, Minerva Ann Taylor, who grew up around the mill. The Sandy and Beaver Canal helped to support the community’s economy in its early years, to be replaced in importance by the railroad when it came through in the 1840s.
