Mount Vernon, the seat of Knox County, Ohio, was named for the plantation owned by President George Washington. The city was founded in 1805 by Joseph Walker, Thomas B. Patterson and Benjamin Butler. The community was a stop along the Cleveland, Akron and Columbus Railway, as well as the Sandusky, Mansfield and Newark Railroad.
