Novelty, Ohio is an unincorporated village comprising the same area as Russell Township, one sixteen townships in Geauga County. The area was first settled by the Gideon Russell family, who settled on what is now the Chillicothe Road, in 1818. The area was known as the West Woods before Russell Township was created, although its post office has always carried the name of Novelty.
