The seat of Erie County, Sandusky is located in northern Ohio, along the shores of Lake Erie. The city's name is thought to have been an Anglicization of the Seneca phrase "san too chee", meaning "cold water". Prior to the abolition of slavery, Sandusky was a major stop on the Underground Railroad. Today, the city is a popular tourist destination, and home to the Cedar Fair Entertainment Company, and its flagship amusement park, Cedar Point.
