Incorporated in 1918, South Amherst is a small village in Lorain County, Ohio. Situated south of Amherst and north of Oberlin, South Amherst is home to Buckeye Quarry, said to be the world’s largest sandstone quarry. Reuben Webb and his family, the community’s first settlers, came to South Amherst in 181, settling along South Ridge Road and what is now the corner of Quarry Road.
