Sugarcreek, Ohio is a village in Tuscarawas County. The community was originally named Shanesville by its founder, Abraham Shane, in 1814. When the railroads located in what became known as East Shanesville in the mid-1800s, the new settlement surpassed its namesake, eventually changing its name to Sugar Creek. In 1969, the two villages merged, taking on the name Sugarcreek. The village is southeast of Walnut Creek.
