Formerly called Wilmington, the village of Utica was founded in 1810 by Major William Robertson. Its name was changed to Utica in 1817 in order to obtain a post office. Utica is located near the center of Ohio, mostly in Licking County, although a portion of the village extends into Knox County. The small village is home to the Velvet Ice Cream Company.
