Walbridge, Ohio is a village in Wood County. The first known settler in the area was Phillip G. Loop, who came in 1846. His son, George Loop, was born in 1847. The early settlement was known as Owls Nest, and it was part of the Great Black Swamp. When the community was awarded a post office in 1871, it was renamed Walbridge, after Henry Walbridge, one of the area’s largest landowners, although Walbridge never lived in the town. Walbridge was incorporated as a village in 1913.
