Waverly, Ohio was formed in 1829 along the west bank of the Scioto River as the Ohio and Erie Canal brought new growth and development to the area. In 1861, Waverly was named the county seat of Pike County. Its name was suggested by Francis Cleveland, who had been reading Sir Walter Scott’s, “Waverly Novels”. Waverly became a city in 1970. Waverly is roughly north of Piketon.
