Located twelve miles south of the Canadian River, Ada, Oklahoma is the seat of Pontotoc County. In the 1890s, families settled in the Chickasaw Nation, at a place known as Daggs Prairie, which was changed to Ada when a post office was established in 1891. The town was incorporated in 1901. Ada is the headquarters of the Chickasaw Nation.
