Burns Flat is a town in Washita County, Oklahoma. In 1929, three school districts merged and established the Burns Flat Consolidated School District, and the town of Burns Flat developed around the school. Its post office opened in 1936, taking its name from the area's flatness and a former post office designation for Burns, which had been discontinued in 1904.
