The small city of Commerce is located in Ottawa County, Oklahoma. The community was first established in the early 1900s as a mining camp known as Hattonville, and its first post office was called North Miami. Another early camp, Tar River, merged with Hattonville, and the combined communities were known as Geneva for a short time, before being changed to Commerce. A second North Miami sprang up south of Commerce in 1915, and still exists today.
