Davenport, Oklahoma was incorporated as a town in 1906, and was named for the postmaster, Nettie Davenport, who was also the daughter of one of the town's earliest settlers. The town was founded in 1903 by a group of Methodist ministers in Kentucky, and was initially intended as a retirement place for Methodist ministers. Davenport is in Lincoln County.
