The town of Hominy, in Osage County, Oklahoma, had its origins in the removal of the Osage Indians from Kansas in the early 1870s. The federal government established an Osage subagency on Hominy Creek in 1874, which led to a store, called Hominy Post, being established to trade with the Osage. A community developed there, and a post office was established in 1891, and the town was incorporated in 1908, after Oklahoma became a state.
