The community that became Mooreland was formed as a resullt of the 1893 Cherokee Outlet Opening, although the town was not founded until 1901. It was first named Dail City but, when its post office was established, it was found that there was already a town by that name in Oklahoma Territory, so it was renamed Moorland, derived from the moors that were found in the area. Inadvertently, an "e" was inserted in the registration.
