Situated along the north bank of the Cimarron River in southern Payne County, Perkins, Oklahoma was established in 1889, shortly after the area was opened to non-Indian settlement. The town was named for U.S. Senator Bishop W. Perkins of Kansas, who used his office to secure a post office for the town.
