Situated in the central part of Ellis County, the Oklahoma town of Shattuck began in 1887, as a railroad water station known as Norice. When the area was opened to non-Indian settlement in 1893, it was given the postal designation of Shattuck, named for a Santa Fe railroad director. Shattuck was incorporated in 1906.
