Located in the northeastern part of Garvin County, the history of Stratford, Oklahoma began in the Chickasaw Nation, Indian Territory. In 1906, when the railroad bypassed the community of McGee, which has been established in 1891, McGee residents moved two miles south to be nearer to the railroad. This new community was originally called Walling, but was changed to Stratford in 1906.
