Thomas is in northeastern Custer County, Oklahoma. The town began in the 1890s as a trading post and general store, operated by William Thomas, who served as the town's first postmaster. The town was incorporated after the railroad came through in 1902. Early settlers in the town were members of the Amish Church, Dunkard Brethren, River Brethren and United Brethren in Christ. Beginning as an agricultural community, Thomas is mostly a bedroom community in recent years.
