Waurika is the seat of Jefferson County, Oklahoma. Prior to the town's founding, the 98th Meridian separated the Chickasaw Nation from the Comanche, Kiowa and Apache Reservation, and Waurika was established with the reservation was opened for settlement in 1901, and was incorporated in 1903.
