Incorporated in 1948, Cave Junction is located in Josephine County, within the Illinois Valley of Oregon. Settled as the result of a small gold rush in the 1850s, the town's economy came to depend on timber as a source of income for its residents. In recent years, the city is attempting to compensate for the decline of the timber industry with tourism and retiree housing.
