Incorporated in 1891, and named for the Clatskanie River, which empties into the Columbia River within the city limits, Clatskanie is in Columbia County, Oregon. Some reports say that the town was known as Bryantville when it was platted in 1884, but its post office was listed as Clatskanie as far back as 1871. Clatskanie is surrounded by several small communities, including Alston, Clatskanie Heights, Delena, Inglis, Kerry, Lacoda, Marshland, Mayger, Quincy, Swedetown, and Woodson.
