The small city of Cove is located on the eastern edge of the Grande Ronde Valley in Union County, Oregon. First populated in 1861 and 1862, the community was initially known as Forest Cove. When a post office was established, the post office department decided that its name too closely resembled Forest Grove, and its name was shorted to Cove.
