Halfway, Oregon got its name from its location halfway between the communities of Pine and Cornucopia. The area was explored and mapped by Benjamin Bonneville in the 1830s, and settled by Euro-Americans in the 1860s, although the city was not incorporated until 1909. The small city in Baker County officially changed its name to Half.com during the dot-com boom of the late 90's.
