Originally known as Christilla Valley, for its first residents, Christian and Matilda Deardorff, who arrived in 1851, the city was incorporated in 1965 by its current name, Happy Valley, Oregon, but remained a small community until the 1990s. The city is located along the state's northern border, in the Clackamas County.
