Established in 1872, Junction City is in Lane County, Oregon. The community was named by railroad magnate Ben Holladay in the 1870s, who decided that this would be where the railroad on the east side of the Williamette Valley would meet the rail line on the west side. Although the west side line was not built according to plan, Junction City later was where the two main branches of US Route 99 would rejoin.
