Named for the Tennessee hometown of William T. Newby, an early immigrant who came on the Oregon Trail, McMinnville is the seat of Yamhill County, Oregon. The city is located at the confluence of the North and South Forks of the Yamhill River in the Williamette Valley. McMinnville is known among UFO researchers for some photographs that were published on the front page of the Telephone-Register, reportedly of an unidentified flying object seen a month earlier.
