Myrtle Creek is a city in Douglas County, Oregon. The area was settled in the early to mid 1800s, with the earliest transportation route being the Applegate Trail. James B. Waver staked a claim to the town site in 1851, selling his claim to J. Bailey in that same year. In turn, Bailey sold the 640-acre parcel to Lazarus Wright, who opened a store there in 1852. In 1865, Wright sold 320 acres to John Hall, who platted the town and subdivided the land. He is considered the founder of Myrtle Creek.
